Mais uma música de sereia e marinheiro pra vocês.
Eu não conhecia!
by DORI CAYMMI
É de noite na ponta da costeira
A traineira descansa no areal
o luar ilumina a cachoeira
ventania balança o palmeiral
a morena desfaz a cabeleira
e desata o vestido de coral
sai pro mar, quando sai deita na esteira
com seu corpo de espuma, areia e sal
Cravejando de estrela a praia inteira
lua cheia parece um castiçal
que clareia um casal na cabeceira
dessa cama de mar, de litoral
no clarão da manhã some a traineira
e não tem mais morena no pontal
foi apenas paixão de marinheira
foi somente desejo de naval

MARINHEIRAGEM - "SAILORING"
It's night on the edge of the coastal shore,
The trawler is resting by the sand
the moonlight illuminates the waterfall
wind rattles the palm trees
the brunette* undoes the hair
and unties the coral dress
dives in the sea, when she leaves it, lay on the straw mat
with her body of foam, sand and salt
Studding with stars the entire beach
The full moon looks like a candlestick
that lights the couple at the head
of this bed of sea, in the coastline
in the morning glare there goes the Trawler
and there is no morena* on the Cape
it was only the passion of a sailor
it was only the desire of a naval.

lighting the couple at the head
of this bed of sea, in the coastline
in the glare of the morning the Trawler is gone
and the morena* is gone on the Cape
it was only the passion of a sailor
it was only the desire of a naval.
* morena - means literally "brunette" , "dark haired" but in Brazilian Portuguese usually mean a "dark skinned girl" usually with dark hair. Usually they use more for skin color than just hair color. I am an example of what they call "morena". More often than I'd like, a guy will start a conversation calling me it. :)
*cravejando - to stud precious gems into metal. I don't think they have this very verb in English.

ps. I translated the second verb differently so -maybe- the second translation would make it could be more clear.
I hope you guys understand how hard is to translate Portuguese to English because we have some many words and, English not that many, also, this is somewhat an old song, a simple and humble people's folk song...

First of all I would like to say superb blog! I had a quick question that I'd
ReplyDeletelike to ask if you don't mind. I was curious
to find out how you center yourself and clear your head prior to writing.
I have had trouble clearing my thoughts in getting my ideas out.
I do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are wasted just
trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or tips?
Appreciate it!
